Keybinds & Movement Macros.

Post by gämmö »

You may have come across them, and you may have thought, shit wat a move that dood just did...wtf?

Well if it looked incredible and just not quite right... den chances are they were using a KEyBind or worse a movement Macro.

grrrrrrr

@2K@ and me last night come across one such dood... and man, waz he charged.... flying around all over the map.. doing the impossible.....

So wtf waz diz nut using?

Well da little phsyco might have been doing this:

<a href='http://unrealtournament2003.com.au/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=331' target='_blank'>KeyBinds</a>

That post is a general intro, for more detailed stuff go <a href='http://members.lycos.co.uk/ut2003console/aliases.php' target='_blank'>HERE</a>.

AUS gamers have been disscussing this stuff for a while, here's a few comments, about it all <a href='http://unrealtournament2003.com.au/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=692&highlight=#692' target='_blank'>HERE</a>.

Ealier this afternoon, I had a very interesting conversation with BLUUDTH|RSTA, here's a few quotes of what we thought of the whole issue....

......
[11:33] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Check out the THREAD @ australiaUT2003.com.au
[11:33] <gammo> well Mr _--- last night he had movements binds/macros... told him to fuck offf.. nice keybinds......
[11:33] <gammo> dickhead
[11:34] <gammo> he ended up winning by 1 killl....
[11:34] <gammo> den he furked offf....
[11:35] <BLUUDTH|RSTA>  Fuk him.  I someone asks me to stop usin something, I would gladdly rise to the challenge for the sake of it.
[11:36] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> 1 kill eh? Good for you, he know his binds wont save him!
[11:36] <gammo> It's not the KeyBinds that pissed me off, it's the obvoius MACROS he was using.....you should've seen da moves he was pulling.....  flat foot.. double wall jumps... jump, straffe, jump, straffe, double jump... takes u halfway across a map.. ffs
[11:36] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Ill find what I use and give you a look.
[11:36] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> See if you wont me to get rid of em.
[11:36] <gammo> k.. i'll have alook
[11:36] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> the one I use the most is=
[11:37] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> the shift key = translocator, on release return to last weapon
[11:37] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> So so long as its held, its translocator
[11:37] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> It still only serves 1 function.
[11:38] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> It is merely a ini file line typed in.  No external programs used to create it,
[11:40] <gammo> dat sounds very interesting.....
[11:40] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> phew!
[11:40] <gammo> gimme alook at the actuall line of code?
[11:42] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> MiddleMouse=Getweapon Xweapons.sniperrifle | Button bFire | onrelease switchtolastweapon
[11:42] <gammo> k
[11:43] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> there is my middle mouse command.
[11:43] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> They are not binds, they are 'ALIASES'
[11:43] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Sounds less guilty????
[11:43] <gammo> ok, so you just put that into your User.ini file.. or the UT2003.ini file
[11:44] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Yeah.
[11:44] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> type it in.
[11:44] <gammo> yeas they are aliasses
[11:44] <gammo> but now how would a macro work?
[11:44] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> A macro, would be a program or hardware that 'binds' certain other actions to a '1 KEY'
[11:44] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> EG
[11:45] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> key'SPACEBAR'=spacebar|spacebar
[11:45] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> In effect the space bar is now doing to things symaltaneously.
[11:46] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Here is my TRANSLOCATOR alias
[11:46] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Aliases[36]=(Command="ShowScores | getweapon xweapons.shieldgun | Button bAltFire | behindview 1 | onrelease behindview 0 | onrelease ShowScores | onrelease switchtolastweapon",Alias="Safescores")
[11:46] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Aliases[37]=(Command="Switchweapon 10 | onrelease switchtolastweapon",Alias="Transswitch")
[11:47] <gammo> exakly, you have to programm it OUTSIDE of UT... it's not within the games parameters of modification, to allow simultanious functions/actions to run off a single key
[11:47] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Yes.
[11:47] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Using another program.
[11:48] <gammo> so binds or aliases are not illegal as I see it.... but macros are.... der independent of UT.. and give unfair advvantage
[11:48] <gammo> binds is up to each individual players astuteness, to find and learn how to use them
[11:49] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Well, that depends on your argument, some one could argue against ALIASES, as with macros.  But I beleive so long as their is no 'thridparty programming/program' involved, then it is ok.
[11:49] <gammo> agreed....
[11:49] <gammo> lol
[11:50] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> So, play around with ut2003 as a package inside/outside the game, its ok, use something OTHER than ut2003 to change/improve it inside/outside the game, not ok.
[11:50] <gammo> ys
[11:50] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> This could get techniccal.
[11:50] <gammo> hahahahaha
[11:50] <gammo> lol
[11:51] <gammo>  Diz could get very messy....!
[11:51] <BLUUDTH|RSTA> Thats my thoughts.......

It's all a bit of dilema, because KeyBinds for example, can not be made more sophisticated throught the UT2K3 GUI... you actually have to open up the *.ini file in an editor and den modify it.  Really that's not exackly above board, because you  are actually altering the *.ini file beyond what you can normally do in-game.

So you can argue that, you are creating an unfair advantage, for yourself, using these KeyBinding techniques.  But on the other hand, there's NOT a KeyBind that I can set up that I can not replicate on the fly, during gameplay.

KeyBinds (my interpretation off), just make it all a little simpler, in the end the only things you can do with my KeyBinds, are the things you can do normally, without,so perhaps it's just convinient to have them.....

I never use KeyBinds, but after this afternoon, I might reconsider their usefullness... Or more to the point, I'm gonna try sum of these Keybindings out... to determine just how effective they are or are not.. and weather they create an unfair advantage.... I'll post again when I got a better idea and sum actuall hands-on...

But out of curiosity have a look at what the WCG thinks about it all, by looking at their Tourney rules <a href='http://www.worldcybergames.org/2003/overview/rule_ut.asp' target='_blank'>HERE</a>.

Anywayz.. derz a few tools out there dat allow you to set KeyBind.. relatively hassle free.....

--<a href='http://www.utbinder.tk/' target='_blank'>UTBinder2003 v1.22</a>

Or a more sophisticated one here, this actualy allows you to set KeyBinds from the UT2K3 GUI Settings Tab!!

--<a href='http://www.ut2003hq.com/pafiledb/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=2676' target='_blank'>KeyBindingPro v1.01</a>

Hmmmmm..... There's plenty of room for discussion with this one....

Anybody got any thoughts on it?

BTW;  I'm in the process of installing UTSecure v2.11 on the [kAoS]*HQ server..... It will help in tracking down MACRO cheats, in other words... movement binds, generated outside of UT2K3.......

To try and stop skin hacks, Aimbots and Set move combination cheats (Macros)

If any one can forsse probs with this, post 'em here.......

Ps:  Tanks to BLUUDTH|RSTA for providing the info links for this topic.... I found those Toolz..... ages ago... lol

The single most useful keybind that I Use is this in your USER.ini Mouse4=pipedswitchweapon 7 | pipedswitchweapon 3
This particular bind assigns the FlaK caNNon AND the BIO to the SAme button on the mouse.(mouse 4 mx700) clik once Flak clik again Bio>>>>>>instant wep changes>>>>>> bigger frag count>>>>>>>>fame riches and glory!

Obviously this bind can be used for any key and any combo of weapons.

Combining the LG and rocket Launcher on the same button is LEEEEEETHAL for your opposition not only does it allow for lightning fast wep changes but as a killer bonus u can fire the LG swap to the roket fire that while in the mean time the LG has reloaded itself and is ready to fire instantly thus almost eliminating the LGs main weekness....its slow loading time!= OWNAGE!

KEYBINDS are 100% legal....................gammo you say

"It's all a bit of dilema, because KeyBinds for example, can not be made more sophisticated throught the UT2K3 GUI... you actually have to open up the *.ini file in an editor and den modify it. Really that's not exackly above board, because you are actually altering the *.ini file beyond what you can normally do in-game."

Well EPIC has an OFFICIAL performance tweak guide which requires you to open the ini.files of UT2003! ..................Also If EPIC didn't want fiddling of the the .ini they would't have left it open to anyone with "notepad" the ability to edit!

To anyone that doubts keybinds and alias' are 100% above board i suggest u go to
<a href='http://unreal.epicgames.com/ut2003tweakguide.htm' target='_blank'>http://unreal.epicgames.com/ut2003tweakguide.htm</a>

here is just some of what EPIC themselves advise!

You can directly edit your UT2003.ini (in your UT2003\system directory) to modify most of the menu settings described above.  Deleting your UT2003.ini will result in the game restoring the recommended defaults for your system when you next play.

There are also many UT2003.ini options which are not exposed in the menus.  Be very careful about changing the ones that aren't documented, as they can have substantial effects on performance or stability.

User.ini

The user.ini file (also in your UT2003\system) directory, contains your key bindings and aliases, as well as some options for personalizing UT2003.

MACROS = CHEATING kAoS in NO WAY supports MACROS..........

Key binding and alias' are not cheating!

I would 100% support this statement.

I would also like to say that perhaps as a clan, that we should state this before a match as apart of the rules themselves.
