I've got a P4 2.8 ,+ geforce FX 5700 and I run at max detail...get about 40 fps.
One thing I have noticed is that when ever I come into a new game (just after the map finishes loading) some people have already got 2 or 3 kills, and I think WTF, the game has just started.... maybe these people are using low settings, which makes their map load quicker then mine....
thats it.....im going to try lower settings.

Hmmm, Interesting topic.
I can see the argument for both sides,
BUT I wan't to be able to see my foe before he sees me, not the other way around. At least at the same time otherwise!
=====================
Just some questions and thoughts for ya's at the mo...
1/ Does lag (i.e. adjusting NETSPEED settings, &/or connection speed in general both/either up and down speed) have more or less of an influence on how well or how quickly you can see what's going on in-game, than FPS?
-Can't see how 1 size fits all for this netspeed setting!
2/ I hate flicker & like higher refresh rates (regardless of detail settings) where ever possible.
-The game .ini needs to be altered to increase the default setting past 60Hz. (May also be something about a 'use windows desktop setting=False' too in ther too)
Thorts?

i've done it for a while, but i find i actually play better with more detail. It helps me recognise areas of the map easier, and i can definently judge distances better with stuff like foilage and detail textures (bumps) as a guide.
The only detail i never turn on for playing reasons is coronas, the flares can blind you in some areas of maps and it is much harder to frag with the sun in your face.
And i'm in the gaming scene for the enjoyment factor too, and since i've spent a fortune on my computer, I might as well get the best eye candy out of it so i can enjoy it a bit more.
Even if that means enjoying losing i guess... not that I do or anything...

in response to this loading speed is mostly dependant on ram pure n simple 512 400mhz in dual channel takes twice as long as my 896meg 300mhz dual channel ( yes i have checked derro)
front side bus speed makes a difference too but not as noticeable
but my front side bus makes a huge difference to my fps due to onboard video...
eye candy is for noobs :meanië: leave foliage on and go forth into the res stakes if you have big iron and a semi decent monitor not pissy 17in postage stamps
AND FoR FuCk SaKe someone find out how to remove fecking FOGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im pretty sure its in the maps design cause i have played maps without it and it didnt touch my fps haveing it off either
