Found it.....
set XWeapons.SniperRifle customcrosshairscale 1
With XWeapons Sniperrifle being your lightning gun, and 1 being default, but it will go as high as you want, even 100.

yeh boooot what program makes crosshairs? say... if i want to make my own
i use a small crosshair... big = in da way
and i couldnt b bothered trying it lol lol lol

Cross 5 at large size doesn't seem to get in your way.

but I use the standard out of the box crosshairs at their defualt sizes..... but then of course yous have all seen me play......

I had a problem the cross was going back to default whan i went back to game.
this is what worked for me change the number in your ini start ut2004 join a server and go to ingame settings/weapons it will say loading weapons database for a short time and thats whan it starts working press esc to go back to game see if the cross i bigger.

OK After spending ages on this, i thinkk I have found as close to aperfect balance, yet...
It works better on smaller file sizes, but I think it's miles ahead in quality from the first one:

The second one is actually 300Klb bigger in file size, but I think the quality is way above the original...
Let me know wich looks better.... in both default vid size and at 200% size.

Its prlly just me, but I thought both clips looked very similar...both at normal size and then full screen...

And a few uder tweaks here and der... mmm on my system the difference is like... black to white....
mmmmm
maybe u lot need to buy full color displays and chuck out your green monochrome setups..

second one for sure........though at 1600x1200 they are both a bit blurry
