every chat program i have installed has some sort of check for updates, u can turn this off in all of them..

after i put msn ont he other day i was getting glitches in my game...hmmmm

out of icq, trillian and msn, out of those three which one have u tried to install on a different partition, and then later after a reformat of windows, which one will run if u go straight to the original directory of the partition u installed to and run it...... trillian all the way baby

anything that u can run without a regisrty enrty, dll files, shit, and extra smelly shit is good in my books..

ICQ while it lasted was the best one.... but it looks liie it has gone down the the road of money first seervice later..... as in it's got more adds then a commercial TV station....

Gammo I have fucking had it with your bullshit. Trillian has NO adware in it. MSN has NO spyware. For fucks sake man, get your facts right! You're using a Microsoft product right now, Windows. So don't give me any of that anti-Microsoft bullshit. Microsoft would NOT benefit at all from including spyware in MSN. It would only make them look worse as it would slow down Windows and Internet Explorer. Why is MSN by far the most popular chat client around? Because it is the fastest, it DOESNT need external dlls or registry entries, and it works.

Trillian is a great prog derro, I'd have to agree. I use it for ICQ anyways (the ICQ servers are the causes of my problems). Its kinda in a different class though, because it's the best parts of msn and icq put together.

Umm.. That program disables CUSTOM features of XP which are OFF by default. hear that? OFF by DEFAULT.

Contrary to what this stupid website (obviously written by someone who has no knowledge of the inner workings of WindowsXP) says, the automatic update service does not run unless you have asked for automatic updates.

And ok say you were running automatic updates. What's Microsoft gonna collect about you? Most probably system specifications to decide what drivers and updates to apply to your system. You think they'd care what sites you visit? What games you have. Fuck no! Microsoft don't need to sell information to make money.

When I upgraded to Xp service pack 2 , on reboot, I find a firewall installed, auto updates turned on, msn instaled and asking me to make an account?

Just wondering... why I had to install that anti shit.. to turn all that shit off.... i couont figure it out, since i had the auto thing turned off and the msn thing uninstalled of my system before the upgrade...

maybe it was my copy of Xp not sure.. but I found all that shit turned on, my homepage reset to point to msn... and a few other things....

MSN never sets itself as the home page unless you tick the box when installing MSN. Firewall is on by default yes, to protect your system from worms. Thats GOOD. Autoupdates are NEVER on automatiaclly. The reporting system that tells you that they are available was just enabled when you install service pack 2.


I am warning you now that by turning off auto update, your system will never ever get updated and you will be bombared with any new worms which exploit Windows in the future. In short, leave it on, or you are a fucking idiot.

I have 3 PCS.. this one is the net surfing one.. I have OTHER firewalls and ANTI spyware and virus and shit running on it..... it gets infected no matter wat... cause naughty sites are very clever....

My second machine is the backbone, its the one were the cable is hooked up to.. its never turned off and it RUNS NO FIREWALLS OR ANYThing.. but it also never ever gets used for antyhignt but to turn the modem on.. and I use the HDD for storage.. In other words, it has NO monitor.. its jsut turned on... dats it... If I need to configure it, I need to plug a monitor into it... uderswise, everything that has to run on it runs off the Startup menu floder, if ever i restart it....

My thirds machine is my UT one

is ONLY for UT.. nothing else.. it has ZERO of everyting installed it just has UT.... no nothing just UT (Ohh and teamspeak) , no spyware utilities nothing, they sap bandwith, so I dont use them on my UT machine, my ping is proof of that.

I do not have anythign on two of my machines and they never get hit with anything, because I never use them for anything except wat they are for... I have firewalls and shit setup on my surfing PC and it gets hammered to no end...

If my UT machine suffers bad ping ingame, its cause my surfing one has ujust been hit with another crapware shit... and ususllay my ping is resolved by turning it off or scanning the surfing one....

Recently i got hammered real bad, by some self installing fucking dialer that would disconnect the surfing one form the network, so as to try and use a dial modem dat does not exist, so in effect.. that changes IP's on my local network effecting all 3 of my machines...

I fixed it, but reformating and reinstalling a ghost image....on my surfing PC... all done in uder 1.30 hours.... ( I like to reformat,, kills it all dead no second guesses)

and i still refuse to use MS inbuilt watever... lol
