Nice work Xaero, I'm actually considering upgrading my existing system pretty soon.
Here's what I'm considering:
AMD Athlon 64 3200
IMO, the athlons provide a bit more bang for buck and I don't think they have even reached thier prime yet. Plus, the 64 is somewhat future proof.
($324)
ABIT Radeon RX700Pro 256MB PCI-x16
Nope, not the best performing card out there, but it will still get me the framerates I want and has the feature sets needed for tommorows games. I picked this because I think it is GREAT value for money. My only other choice was to commit an extra $400 dollars for the top of the line cards that will probably perform slightly better than this.
($335)
Asus A8N-SLI-Deluxe
I haven't actually decided on this motherboard currently, unless I want to pay $50 less for a similar board.
($302)
1GB RAM
Obviously, this is a must. In ut2004, it won't get better framerates than 512MB, but it will decrease map loading times dramatically.
($289)
So far, those main components inside my existing case nets a bill of $1250.
Of course, I'm thinking of some extras like a new and kewl looking case ($100-$150), a DVD Dual layer burner (around $100 I think) and possibly a 200GB (or higher) HDD ($250 upwards).
That's around the $1600-$1700 mark total for me I think.

btw the 3200+64 with some better cooling goes up to 3700 safley so iz good value
6600gt would have to be best performance vs dollars atm

I'm still making heads and tails of the different types of ram out there, heh.

By psu, you mean graphic card? $300 dollars isn't exactly cheap, and I've looked at benchmarks on ut2004 and other games, my card performs nicely, and I'm probably not gonna have all the details on anyways. Similar cards with similar features can cost $300 dollars simply for the next higher model.

Haven't looked at overclocking (it's a science and an artform from what I've heard), but kewl.

Actually, I was considering DVD movie authoring somewhere in the back of my mind, heh.
Nice case 2k!

If anyyou lot interested, the CPU is the one that pushes UT2k4 the most, I upgraded my Vid card from a nvidiafx5600 to a x800pro with little to no FPS change. So if you wanna pawn, get a CPU upgrade, is cheaper too.

MX1000 has altency, it's cordeless, so it has latency... however minute it may be, it's still latency.
Latency in UT is simply unexceptable.
MX510 has ZERO latency.
There is no other alternative. No comprimise.
