amd athlon64 x2 4400+ 1152k cache
flexiglow 500w - hope its enough power
two asus extreme n6800 gt's pci-e in sli - ::shocked::
200gig sata seagate - maybe another one later
corsair twinX 1 gig xms3200 400mhz - maybe another gig later
**still not sure on the ram at the moment, but i thinks the board only supports 400 mhz, i should know that by now
::pisspot::
oh and a 19 inch mitsubishi diamon digital flat crt,... fuk lcd

i got a feeling the ram will be the bottleneck, its only 199 for the gig and to me that seems preaty cheap for a high end setup..... any suggestions lads ?

Wow Derro, looks very nice and keep you satisfied for a while to come.

Im pretty sure I heard someone say AMD boards dont support DDR2 RAM but dont quote me on that one...but everything else seems rock solid. Maybe a bit further down the track get that extra gig of RAM.

Id really like to get a new PC soon too. Nothing to technical, just something to get me through UT2007 when it comes.

So far Im looking at;

>>Prescott 3.2E GHz processor (478 socket)
>>1gig Corsair Value Select RAM 400MHz
>>MSI Mainboard (Supports everything I need and quite cheap)
>>MSI NX6600GT 128MB (apparently it gives loads better performance over the 6600 256MB and is cheaper)

Using the same monitor and box I already have. All up should cost me shy of $900. But ill get it piece by piece.

PS: Tell me if this is off-topic cause ill remove the bottom bit...dont wanna get on gammos badside, he's already upset with the avatar lol =)

Looks good.......

......

buuuutttt.....

SLI ani't all that cracked up like they say, why?

Well you have two main bottlenecks on your ssytem (any sys 4 dat matter)

HDD trasnfer speed and CPU proccesing speed...

In your particualr case it's the HDD that will bottle neck closely followed by the CPU (Your Sli setup will be redundant because of it-THe CPU can't keep up)... of course the severity of the bottleneck on the CPU totally depends on what you are doing with your PC...

GAMING go with AMD, the dual core setup AMD offers is much better suited for GAMING.

VIDEO / graphics, 3D modelling/rendering, etc.. go with INTEl... intels long pipe structure is much better suited for video processing....

IF you are vidoe proccessing then your main bottle neck will be the HDD, 7200RPM SATA2 will help, but a RAPTOR 10,000RPM with 16MB cache will vastly make a diff.... specially if you RAID 1+0 or 5....

As for the Mhz of your RAM... if you go with AMD, you max frequency is 400, only Intel Extreme Edition (Dual core) supports 500+ Mhz RAM....

Lastly, only my opini0n, but you are wasting money on your twin SLi setup with the 6600 cards... it's a sucker punch...

WHy spend nearly 900 dollarsd on two cards, when you can get a 7800GTX for around 850... the perfomance fo the 7800 blows the 6600 twin turbo out of the water....

and 1 year down the road, the 7800 will be El Chepo... so you can easily hook two up then... even then, unless you are doing sum serious 3D Modelling or HD-TV editing, there is NO games on the market for at least another 2 to 3 years that will FULLY take advantage of a twin setup....

the nVidia 7800 GPU iz got 300 Million trnasitors and can process 185 Gigaflops a second, that's like an %800 more horse power den any AMD or intel CPU....

Decide on your CPU based on the usage you are going to give it...

Get SATA2 regardless....

Grab a nVidia 7800GTX 256MB DDR3 card...

and wrap it up with a motherboard that has nFORCE.. not Intel of VIA or SiS.. chipsets.. Only nForce supports dual core CPU's maximising the speed of it....

Also fuck MSI.. they sux horse hair.... lay out the mula and get a ASUS, ABIT or even Gigabyte... rest is all imitation shit... dat serves no purpose but to burn your money....

LAstly throw in an Audigy2 ZS card for around 150 bucks..

n u got a l337 PC that will last at least 5 years in the market...

Aside from all that, I still hate you and you sux!!!!!

:D

Ps: Disco, the above applies to your question about a rig as welll.....

thanks for the info......

.....

lol

.....

yer good idea about not getting two of those cards, and they were asus 6800 gt's, and would have been 1400 worth for both of them, true silly idea, but i was getting power hungry

i am asuming you can use only one for the time being with the nvidia cards, and like u say get the other later when its cheaper..
hence your reccomendation of the 7800 gtx, thanks to good ole atomic I have concluded I will try out the XFX... pre overclocked and can still be pushed up an extra 25mhz on the core - $899. :]

the only thing I want to make sure of is, are you sure I can use one card on its own for the time being and the seccond is not required,.. just yet..

how much power do the cards suck outta your system these days, i mean i am planning on a 500w with pci-e power connectors of course..., but it may be running a seccond hdd, up to 4 - 12volt fans, and later on the seccond 7800 gtx,..... only one dvd player but... u reccond that should be ok?

Standalone is fine, works peerrferct.. to double up donw the track, you just gotta make sure you get an identical card.. not to much of aprob if you go with asolid brand like, Leadtek, ASUS, ABIT or sum toher crap..

500W is plenty... to power everything u got plus your next door neighbours PC...
