I completly agree with him, the US and the allied forces have to be stopped, they have no right to invade a country first with lies about WMD's and now with the rhetoric of democracy.

IF they are not stopped now, were / who are they going to murder next?

The paralle he drwas with Vietnam is particualry important in uderstanding were he is coming from.

He is a national treasure, unlike the Lakkys we have elected into goverment, who are so far up America's murdering arse we are no longer Australia but actually the 54th state. And if you think I'm exagerating, then you need to look around you and tell what we have.

ANd now for the real juice bit.

Wether you agree with him or not, he is entitled to his opinion in this DEMOCRATIC country of ours down under. Just like you are entitled to agree or disagree with him.

But did you know that under the controversial new anti-terrorism laws that have now been introduced into parliament.

His comments are classified as:

"Sedition"

What is Sedition as the Howard regine sees it?

Schedule 7 of the bill deals with "Sedition" which the Macquarie Dictionary defines as "incitement of discontent or rebellion against the government; action or language promoting such discontent or rebellion".

Interesting huh.... but don't take my word for it, read what a few Barristers have to say about it:

http://abc.net.au/mediawatch/img/2005/ep34/advice.pdf

So while we are busy sinking billions of dollars in murdering Iraqis at the whim of the Americans and in the name of DEMOCRACY, our own civil libertes are been pulled right out from under our feet.

Nothing is what it seems and the bubbles most of us walk around in, need to be burts for the sake of the rest of us.....

thanx for that gammo, good links
I recently caught a live interview with that journalist "Robert Fisk" = very enlightening

NZer's r lagging behind Oz in following Bush's Patriot Act but i can understand the fear of the "Animal Farm" that is coming

Interesting to note that civil liberties r not prescribed or defined . . . they merely appear when faced with encroachment . . . like the USA Patriot Act suggests its latest amendment PROTECTS some 30 civil liberties . . . what its people shud be asking is whether that means those liberties r also about to be lost!

An interesting talk on war & liberties with an historical slant is here:

http://www.independent.org/research/copal/

and here is a legal mind on where this is all leading in the domestic sphere of USA & OZ & everywhere else:

http://writ.news.findlaw.com/dean/20060324.html

there seems little promulgated on how this state of affairs can actually be stopped . . . . seems the Rule of Law means nothing to governments these days & gone r the days one can say that "no man is above the law"
but its not just law is it?
i mean imo it is all highly immoral . . . who has the right to overtake another sovereignty's right to self determination like the Iraq affair?

but i am realsitic & i know that there is many out there that r in a bubble & frankly cbf even considering the issues . . .

cheers for giving me an opportunity to put forth some of what i think, gammo . . . i know i have gone slightly outside the ambit of the topic but very hard to isolate what is essentailly one big f*** up

Nice link, yeah i reackon hes spot on as well... it's no easy matter to deal with let alone discuss as everyone is consumed with the day to day tribualtions of making aliving...

but Ironic as it seems, the day to day struggle would be greatly reduced if we were able to "share" resources move evenly and have them less fixated on economic gain....

If the world had a more fair and just almost "Social" agenda instead of a Capatilist agenda, then there would be less struggle, because after all struggle is the essence of change, is it not?

And that is my point in total with this thread... if we do not question or struggle against injustice as we see it, then there will NO change....

the nasty part of these Stalinist type "Sedition" laws, aim solely at restricting public discourse and guieding that discourse into more acceptable everyday things like, what car should I buy next.... instead of, Can this planet sustain yet another car?

Capatalism is based on control of assest/resources and mordern capitalism or Globalisation as it's know now is based on MONOPOLIES.

Fair trade is a romantic notion to feed the commercial TV news spots and put ink to pulp in Murdoch's grinding wheel...

You just need to look at what is happening with the FreePort copper mine in Papua:

American owned and it's pumped over 33 Billion redbacks into Indonesias pocket, who in turn repay the American's kindness with brutal military force to keep the Papua populance under control using violence and terror.

We support (Aus Goverment) the bloody war in Iraq to bring Justcie and democracy to that troubled region and to allow American's to control their oil fields by impossing a puppet governement and legislators, but we DO NOT support Papua's struggle for freedom from a brutal oppresor...

Could I be cynical in asuming that the sole reason for our reluctance of support lies in the fact that it's current structure benifits the American operator?

Na.. it can't be that simple can it?
