my g/f's puter shat itself! im 650ks from home and i have to fix it...

HELP! lol.

a) i have $1000 (i have to fork out if goes over) to spend and would like cpu, mb, ram, vid, monitor (she has a 3yr old 120g sata hdd that probably should be upgraded but not critical and same with case only has one 8cm fan at back but also an 8cm fan at side so could be needed but not critical)

b) all of it has to be bought at www.pcshopper.com.au as she knows where it is

c) she plays GTA San Andreas and Sims 2 with all expansion packs and lots of uni work and audio and video programs (for uni)

d) this is the cpu i would like $264 - INTEL Core 2 Duo E6420 2.13GHZ 1066MHz (775) CPU 4M cache

e) 2Gig of RAM would be nice
f) go nutz

$1000.00 is not much if you have to buy a lcd too.

Yep, drop the 800mhz Ram, she aint gonna overclock so get her the 533mhz ram and she does not REALLY need 2 gig of Ram? Get the value Corsais for $95.

Leave the current harddrive.

That should leave you enough to get a nice Widescreen 19" monitor.

She will be more likely to value the "VISUAL" appeal of the new PC and the Widescreen then the "faster" loading times of another 2gig of RAM which will hardly EVER fully be utilised, unless of course her video work is that ram intensive type of vid editing.

Of course a hardcore gamer would not get the above, but serisouly, she is gonna LOVE YOUR ARSE if you get her that. How interested can she be in whats under the bonet if she can't buy it herself?

It will work fine under most circumstances, and it will run her apps and games like a DREAM, plus, you getting rid of her CRT Dinosaur...oh man! Going from CRT to LCD is in my opinion the best upgrade you can EVER make. AS that is the fuking thing you look at right?

- Most chicks love the LOOK of a car then the technical mumbo jumbo under the bonet, as long as it goes "ok" they are happy. Men on the other hand need every extra little bitty bit of power they can possibly squeeze out of that sucker, who gives a shit if the wheel don't match or if there is a scratch in the fucker.

Oh, one last thing, this maching will run better then what she alraedy has, so you are gonna win with that regard right away, PLUS you will win even more cause she has a swank LCD widescreen monitor! FUCK YEAH!

i talked to gammo last night about it on ts

after 2hours of fookin around we decided to not worry about the monitor until the 22" monitors come down to $300 as that would suit her perfectly for uni. the monitor is a tft (lcd) already, just old

and th case im just goin to drill holes in it and put bigger fans in it and use it myself and give her my thermaltake saprano case (i had at the lan) just to keep her happy and save some $$$

this setup my bro and i chose should last her 3-5years with a new monitor in 6-12months. she has a ms media keyboard and my old mx510 mouse so all good there

I thought she had a CRT monitor. If she already has got an LCD definetly no point going with what I suggested as that was drivern purely on getting her an LCD which she already had.

So I think the first choice was better.

i would get shot if my computer decided to pass away in a month or two and she lost her project. my computer is over 2.5yrs old. i will upgrade when when ut3 comes out

after spending an hour and a half trying to get the fookin computer going over the phone (removing hdd, vid capture, resetin cmos, changing ram, etc) i said it must be fooked as it had been playing up for about 2months now

just looked at the fookin computer and it was hanging on post after lookin for usb mass storage devices... unplugged the fookin printer and BOOM! IT FOOIN WORKED

yer, there on order. some parts they did not have. its been playin up for a while so we are just going to do it

i will use the old bits to build a media pc for the tv

all good, bought her an lg 19" $255 wide and thought while i was at it i all so purchesed a thermaltake saprano silver case $131 - too lazy to swap cases

thats $425 (approx 50%) over budget. call this computer a brisbane gov project - always 50-300% over budget

While we are talking about buying new computer parts, lets throw in some recommendations for a new mouse, for someone i know who smashed their mouse into pieces due to an anger management problem, not me just this person i know. And some good headphones, i dont think this person has ever had a decent pair. A point in the right direction would be appreciated
