HDD crashed, backup drive fried SAME FUCKING DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! $1900 to retrieve data...bye bye date hello new system.

Bought a whole new system including a 120GB SSd HDD...nice cept the Vid Card I kept

ANyway, installed UT3...can't find my manual, thus no cd key.

Any ideas to get UT3 rockin without buying again?

I think Equinox is selling for 5 $

I certainly didn't pay anyone $1,900 for data recovery. I just got a quote fpr $1,900 then said "fuck that"

I got the hard drive at the office. I'll give you cash to recover it, but I get the impressive it is a goner. Its' the reader is fucked, ie a clicking noise and spin noise.

Yeah a clicking noise is not good at all.... not good....

If you can get the drive to spin then there is a good chance off getting the data out of it... if it can't spin, then the drive needs to be taken apart and put into another drives casing, then the data can be extracted.

That requires a fair bit of work and there is NO guarantee that it will work.

You can send it to me, I will give it a go, that at least is a better option then 1,900 dollars.. no...

I have successfully extracted DATA from clicking drivers before but it took a long, long time, (nearly 2 weeks) DATA can be extracted but at excruciatingly slow speeds.....

As for your uT3 CD-Key, why not just email epic games and tell them what happened, you can point them to these here forums as proof that you have been playing the game for years.... it's worth a shot dude.

Seagate drive?

They have the click of death - it's a known fault

The drives after a set number of starts, move the heads to an inaccessible sector on the disk, the heads then click because they hit the return bar and that's all you ever get

If the drive is still spinning then you may be lucky and applying a firmware patch (downloadable from seagate) allows you to patch the drive to get it working again

Google seagate click of death - it happened on their 1Tb models and the 1.5's as well I think. It's identifiable by the serial number as it affected a range of drives. Of course if you don't have a seagate then all of the above is worthless

The $1900 charge is expensive because they pull apart the drive and remove the platters and load it into another assembly. It's normally done in a class 100 or better clean room - these facilities cost money! I believe for a class 100 clean room you have to be suited up, not allowed to walk faster than a slow walk and there are a myriad of cleaning procedures that has to be carried out regularly as well - it's expensive to run even a class 100 clean room - a class 1 clean room involves some serious money to maintain!

While I too would scoff at how much they want to charge to recover teh drives data, their type of operation they are referring to isn't the same as sticking in getdataback or spinrite - it's actually pulling apart the drive and meeting certain data recovery standards that cost a bomb in terms of meeting the ISO quality requirements for in terms of certification
