The Aus & NZ Unreal Comunity.

Post by gämmö »

[align=justify]It seems that things are not going good for this community; it is dying at an enormous pace. More and more clans are breaking up and their members are leaving to go other games like WoW. Single non clanners are leaving before they even get average skills.

There are many reasons for this happening, but it would appear they all come down to one simple thing:

Good manners.

yeap... no, not joking at all. Go to a lot of the forums (Not all of them suffer from this, some clan forums are very respectful), and the one thing that strikes you smack bang in the face, is the almost non-existing level of good manners between the users. You find lot of bicthing, whining, slagging, swearing, yelling, back stabbing, overwhelming narcissism (Egotism), lying and utmost, negativity permeates the whole scene like the black plague... and as the black plague would do, it's killing it dead.

It is difficult to diagnose a thing of this nature, we all have our own take on things. And our interpretations differ widely, so I think we need to find one common denominator and to work on that.

The common denominator: The game “Unreal Tournament 2004”. It is the center of this community and it should remain the center of this community.

What we need to do, is to forget about our differences and to begin having fun again with this game. We need to stop trying to prove to anyone else (fellow gamers) that we are better then thou. Need to swallow a few humility pills along with those chill pills and step back and smile a bit more, and not take so seriously some else’s opinion.

How to practically do that? Easy. Be nice! Simple just be nice, say hello, gg, wd, bl, hf, gl! Just be nice to one another man… you don’t have to prove anything to anyone… just have the best game you can, if you loose, it’s OK, you might win next time, if you win it’s OK, you might lose next time. Turn it into a win- win situation. For everyone with everyone.

I strongly recommend to everyone in this community to at least try and get on, to leave out the sarcastic egotism and envy and hate and to just play the game and have fun. Because if we do not do that, if we do not even try, then it’s over for all of us, we become relics of an awesome but forgotten game.

Man, i dont think thats the only reason. UT isnt being put out to the public as much as other games. The perth cs scene has no manners at all and there is so much fighting and abusing and running down of other gamers.. but its huger then ever! So that controdicts what you said.

There are many reasons for this happening, but it would appear they all come down to one simple thing:

It merely points out what is obvious to many, it does not conclude that it is the only reason. It appers to be one fo the resons.....

Other things that come to mind is the learning curve to master the game and the vast differences in skill levels from the beginner to the veteran....

There are many reasons.... but why not start with good manners and take it from there....

I think the real reason ppl that are new leave ut quickly is because everyone is so good they keep getting owned again and again then just give up!!!

that was especially bad for me. one of my first instagib games (yeah i started playing online with instagib :P) was in the GA server when some aimbotter was in, ws bad cause you couldnt spawn without dying instantly, so overwhelming.

instagib is a good starting point ofr new players helps get the movement sorted out without having to worry about what weapon is best in each situation.

im friendly enough :P and i make friends with many of the new guys to the game.

Ha, tell me about it. I played ut99 in botmatches for 4 years straight, and I've been playing ut2004 online for a year now, and there's still plenty of players that aim better than me.

It's ludicrously hilarious ... hahahaha.

i agree to some extent that this cud very well be a reason why many coomence into UT only to give up in frustration BUT i still am always owned and it does not lessen the enjoyment of the game for me . . . if anything it makes me more determined to get good & kick ass! i am out there having a ball and no one, but no one, is gonna ruin it for me - unfortunately my tenacity is not shared by all.

i have to agree with gammo that commonsense, good manners & humility r all necessities of the game and . . . get this, they r also necessities of LIFE!

Another reason might be, that most players already in the community have given up for what ever reason they might have, on the community itself, and are content to play on setup's like PUG server, etc...

That may be a resonable way to avoid botters, but it is by no means a reasonable way to help the community, stop botters destroying it. Example, to play on pug you have to goto the mirc channel, what if you are banned from there at the whim of one of the admins? What then?

That ban might be totally unrelated to hax and the like, it's got to do with a difference of opinion.....

My point is... that you can not turn your back on the community, because the challenge of keeping it clean proves to be a difficult one, buy setting up things like pug, were it appears only "mates" get in. That kinda is like confusing the wood for the trees man....

We all need to take an active part in a community if we wish it to thrive...

We play pugs because:
1. We're all mates
2. The servers are 100x better
3. The competition is 600x better then on pubs with spammers and retards
4. It is a game setup so we all have communication which provides a better game, etc

We're not destroying the community by pugging, we're simply arranging for more exciting game play between a range of particular people.

And like you guys can talk about "being banned for a reason other then hax" i as playing on the kaos server as an alias, no problems, i change to "-fear°heero-" and instantly i was banned, what is up with that?
