Telstra maintain your upload speed capped @ 128kb/s (might be 256kb/s with their most expensive plan). Upping your download speed won't improve your ping. Your download bandwidth won't get saturated by the game but your upload cap of 128kb/s might be the cause of your problem if other stuff (spyware, viruses, downloads) is running in the background. Too much stuff running fighting for your upload stream = bad ping.

Scan your computer for viruses and spyware first before committing to Telstra's inflated and uncompetetive new plans.

OK, again.

Upgrading your ACCOUNT WILL DO NOTHING!

IT has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR ACCOUNT.

Once your ping travels OUTSIDE of your local network, you are pissing in the wind.

IT all depends on HOW the Servers accept incoming traffic thourhgt their network routers.

In other words, there is nothing you can do, dun spend your money, as Larz says, on inflated FUCKING PROPAGANDA BULLFUCKINGSHIT from Telstra. IT's all fucking lies and HYPE!

Example:
Remeber I just bought a specialised router that was built to maximise connections between specific locations. Guesss what it makes no diff if my connection is been routed via crap hardware or alternate paths that lead your connection around the world before it logs you into the server.

Look for most of the week I ping over 150+ to the kAoS server, ok

THe physical location of the kAoS server is less than 15klm from my MOTHERFUCKING HOUSE... FUCK!!!!!!!! (OMFG I ping 60 with NO p/l on Skanky 24/7... FFS!!!)

Then suddenly late on weekends, my pings hit 36 solid.

Can you explain that to me?

I can't, OPTUS can't, Telstra sure as fuck can't, WHY?

Because once your ping travels accross a few networks, it is vulnarable to those networks up's and donw's, nothing you can do will change that. If suddenly your connection was routed via a different network routing system, it may improve or it may worsen.

What I'm saying is this:
As Soldant put it in your GameaRENA THREATH:

Paying $10 extra will do nothing. Unfortunately my friend, you're stuck, same as the others who have the same problem. It usually disappears after a while. The exact cause for this problem is something we've never really been able to figure out, there have been a few good ideas but nothing can be proven. The fact is, it's up to whoever owns the device in question (which is probably Telstra in most cases but in others could be someone else) to fix it, and they're not going to do that because somebody's ping sucks.

And that my pissed friend is the trugth of it all. To use a metaphor..

There is a brand new motorway with a speed limit of 200MPH, but in the very middle of the motorway, there is a toll booth, that ONLY accepts cash, guess woot?
For all your horsepower and open speed limits, that toll both is going to bring you to a screaching halt.

Same on the internet, you may have the best conenction of the fucking planet and the best motherfucking PC money can buy, but if your connection travels along outmoded and outdated hardware, your fancy flashing lights will do nothing but crawl along.

Patiencie 2k, dun spend ur money, Telstra are never going to say that to you, they want your money, they don't give a flying fuck about your bloody ping.

In addition to that, and I'm speculating here no more then that, I suspect that the GS, OUT and kAoS servers are all on the same network, or at least they use the same routing path for particualr connections.

In this case, my OPtus and your Telstra.

R@ge is on Telstra and he gets solid ping, but even his ping is full of p/l on those same servers, it varies, but it's still there.

Therefore these servers are either all on the same bulk provider or use the same routing, either way, there is nothing we can do.

GS, OUT and OzFPrces can change the way connections route into their local networks, but even that is limited in success because they can not (As Telstra, Optus, Netspace, etcc..) control each individual piece of hardware that your connection travels along.

They can change a few paths and shit, but that's about it.

dunno, merets further investigation fo sure...

fook.

But you need to do a few tracerts without using Trellian trace.exe because wen I do a normal cms tracert the pings vary quite substancially.

To do a stadanrd tracert follow these instructions:

Start >> RUN >> in the dialog box that opens type: "CMS" >> A DOS_Prompt window will open in that type: "Tracert 203.145.58.20" >> Hit enter. (Just change the IP accordingly.

To copy and paste the results: >> Right Click and select ALL >> PRess enter to copy to clipboard >> Paste into text document.

The reason you need to do this and not solely rely on Trellian is because the packet size the Windows one sends is standard and small, it appears Treallian uses a bigger packet size to test the ping bounce, therefore the ping will vary.

Also there appears to be a bit of bs going on by Telstra and Optus as far as ping responsability is concerned. Tesltra owns all the groundwire for cable with the exception of a few installers since markert deregualtion. therefore it si quite possible to assume that they can identify the probelm, but wether they can legally do anything about it is another matter.

Also the posts in your threads, suggest that Tesltra may be playing funny buggers because of the new (And very profitable [for them] plans coming out), that comes as no surprise to me watsoever, in fact i would lean towards that logic more then network responsability arguments wich are undefinable and rhetoric.

It's about profit boosting, remember and never forget, they are a private company (Regardless of the upcoming sell-off) and they are driven by profits (It's the corporate culture that this Goverment has encouraged by deregulation) arguments in favour quote "Competetion", yes that would be true if Telstra DID NOT own 98% of the ground wire. Also consider they are in a huge profit-loss slump and are utterlly desperate to boost earnings so as to boost shareholder confidence by boosting the share value on the stock market, to maximize the companies value prior to the full privatisation of this mismanaged behemoth.

Yeap lots of boosting going on, pity none of it is reaching our connections... =[

In other words, there is no easy solution as there might be many contributing factors and above all they can argue themselves out of the responsability by the age-old ISP arguement of "It's outside of OUR network therefore it's outside of our control and responsability so sux my cock".

Patience, you never know waht solution you might stumble across.

Well I understand little to nothing about all this but I thought maybe gammo would like a tracert from someone thats not using either Optus or Telstra (Im with netspace)

The first tracert is to the IP you posted in your last post gammo, the other 5 are too mcgoohq. The second mcgoohq one gives me a really bad ping on the core1-fastether-0-0-12.Adelaide.netspace.net.au
[203.17.102.20] hop, but everything else seems normal.

Hope this stuff is relevant...

Firstly check out this thread here, it may help isolate other hidden issues that are effecting overall perfomance.

Ok yeah there is 2k, gimme a bit to find and compile them for you.

Mainao thanks for those traces, yes they do help, the more the merrier. It seems you timed out at the node that problably is the last node on your actuall ISP network before it goes into the wild, One reason it may time out there is because 10 zillion uder users heading out of the ISP's network also get routed there, call it an exit point if you like.

2k's traces also show a bit of that, as do mine and uders i have seen.

Keep ém coming, both ideas/suggestions and tracerts

::cheers2::

*Edit* Ohh wait, just remembered, try some of these tools here opn this poage. But please be sure to Anti them properly ok. Dun just go on a d/l install rampage! Check the files first.

This one lets you set a packet size, so you can see the difference different packet sizes make in pinging the same addy.

Visual Ping 0.8.0.0

What we need to determine is what is the AVERAGE packet size UT4 uses?

Then we could get even more accurate and realistic ping/tracert information.

Anyone got any suggestions on the UT4 packet size?
