Absolutultely........... Yeah sure I like to blame Howard but an equal share of the blame lyes squarely on "our" shoulders. The people of this country "allowed" this to happen through their sheer and collective appathy!
The hard and simple fact is that Aussies just dont give a fuk.
Just ask yourself this: when was the last time someone made mention of let alone you had a conversation with someone about the war/tragedy in Iraq.
I bet you u cant remember or it has never happened.
Because unless its about sport most Aussies just arent interested.
Make no mistake its public sentiment/votes that drive the decisions Howard makes. The David Hicks case being a prime example, the guy is left to rot for 5 years without trial but then growing public sentiment over the injusticeness of it plus a looming election and "surprise surprise" a speedy trial is arranged.
