Well UT3 is much much closer to UT99 than it is to UT2k4.

You only need go to the UT3 forums to see the old ut99 community fuking wetting themselves with joy over it ffs.

Well it's a nightmare to play actually.... there are so many probs with this game, wer to start....

Not only is hitscaning well and truly dead, the game itself makes it almost imposible......

http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=580127

For me the main issue is mouse and floatiness. The crosshairs feel as if there on  parabolical arm, floating off to the side somewere. Not good, terrible for a FPS, suicide actually.

That is a real issue, in Ut4, the mouse movement is spot on, when you aim in Ut4, it counts. In Ut3, it almost all comes down to luck, hence everybody running around the servers with the mini. God, this is the spamiest game I've ever played.

No doubt in 1on1 it's a diferent story, but quite frankly, I cbf going throuhgt this learning curve all over again, only to be fucked up by constant spam.... even on 1on1 the Mini dominates.

I just don't feel confortable in this game, seriously I find it boring as hell. Last night in VCTF, I actually started to get bored, by the constant Manta runs, they hit you so fucking fast, you don't even see them coming.

Atm having a bit of fun Camping & sniping on the Suspense map, but I think that might last another couple of games, then what? Back to a constant wall of spam in DM?

In Ut4 no matter how spammy it got, there was always a way out, with your movement skills and hit-scanning. now the spam suxs you in man.... follows you around the maps.......

I guess my biggest and most deterring problem is the new movement style. It's just not me. I don't like one bit, just can't seem to get my head around it at all. I find it frustrating and limited, confiding and clastrophobic. For me Ut4's movement, was the pinecle of the FPS genre, fast, lean, complex, most importantly, explosively unpredictible. Now, it's left to right and right to left...... tada!

That and the absence of hit-scanning has kill the experience for me.  I mean I played Ut4 cause I like hit-scanning and complex movement combinations..... why would I give that up for Ut3?

Wich in trn leads me to the following conclusion:

I don't think i will be buying this game, dudes. Ut4 bought me countless hours of funz0r and good times on our server and Ts. So far in Ut3, I just want to log off every server I'm on, man.

Soz, but I don't think i will play this game at all. I just don't like all the changes, After playing Ut3 for 4 days straight, I went and had a game on our server of Ut4 and straight away, even against the bot, I felt at home, in my element.

So, so far, I'm not keen on this game, at all!!

Ps; Expect to pay over 120 dollars a month for a server.  Something I will not be doing if I'm not playing it.  In fact I whish I never fucking upgraded our website and just left it as it is, cause the new game does not deserve this new website.

On a personal level, I feel totally betrayed by Epic, this release has completely taken a shit on Ut4, like it never happend, well Epic, we've invested thousands in a sever over the last four years, to now be totally forgotten.  FUCK YOU!

Well we need to make a decision about the server, as soon as I have solid pricing I will make a thread.

To be continued....

Honestly i will be buying this game only to play VCTF & Warfare thats it not on a competitive level unless we get enough people playing. But the game has been noobed down or in Warcraft terms "nefred"

And it is not as exciting to play as UT2004 is and yes there is something wrong with the mouse movement can't even pull off moving shock combos, let alone hit with the primary shock properly, i'm just hoping its the beta demo an is fixed in retail.

As far as server goes only get it if we are all going to play and pay for the server besides gammo who proberly won't be getting it, but lets see how much it's gonan cost first.

who knows we might find a new game to play  :)

Keep in mind we havn't played the full game yet, and we are playing on 15-24 manned servers on a map designed for lower players counts. We'll see how VCTF runs in a comp.

The stinger is quite powerful, but again, it's dominating on a tight map packed with nubs. The stinger is less powerful then the ut2004 minigun and requires more skill to use imo.

I know what you mean about the mouse issue. Now sure why, but I'm missing lots of shots I wouldn't miss very often in ut2004. Of course, there's no way to change the crosshairs (even looked through the ini's in vain). I found I got my best results in ut2004 from a VERY clearly defined crosshair and it was unmistakable when it passed over my target.

Low and somewhat varying fps wouldn't help either.

I'm finding I can hit combos almost as well as I did in ut2004, I'm hitting them while moving and landing from a dodge too.

When the full game comes out, I'm gonna play on any instagib servers that come up (to get my aim back).

Every one  likes the game type as i always liked tdm,dm and some 1v1 for fun.
I just cant get in to the vctf in ut3 with out the dodge jump you get run over like a noob.
so the only thing left for me is dm with 25 players on the server running around with mini.
i know its only a beta demo  but im not having all that much fun.

Mantas are really agile now. They can't jump nowhere near as high as they did in ut2004, but they have faster acceleration, faster turning and are bigger.

On the plus side, it's actually possible to hit them now. Dodging still can work on avoiding them (to a degree) while you flak or mini at them.

It's strange that they made the shock almost useless against the manta, considering you feel much more vulnerable now.  You can't put a core out in front of you and push the manta back, they just go straight through it and squish you.  Apparently you can crouch and not get sqaushed...yet to try that it though.

I wouldn't worry too much about VCTF.  I really don't think it will be popular when the game comes out.  The OZ community is far too small to be spread out over 4 or 5 gametypes, it will naturally come to rest on two, max 3, and those will be DM, CTF and warfare(ons style) - I imagine.

RE: the game as a whole.

I have really mixed feelings.  One minute I absolutely hate it and feel like I'm playing some shit console game.  The next moment it seems ok to play.  I'm flip-flopping more than John Kerry!   ::Doh!!!::

Take the graphics for instance.  The vehicles and weapons look pretty amazing, and when you stand under the dark walker it's quite a sight to behold.  But then on the other hand, the whole game looks a bit washed out.  All greys and browns, with only tiny bits of colour.
DM-shangrlia - is just  a big grey building with 400 of that goofy looking brown character running everywhere.

It's impossible to say how I will feel about the game in say a months time.  I may never play it again, or it may grow on me.  Perhaps the full version will offer something completely different. Maybe someone will mod the shit out it and make something really interesting.

Even if it doesn't change that much from beta >>> full version, if half the players switch to UT3, it will mean the death of 2k4 (in terms of player numbers) considering it was already struggling.

So it's a bit sad in a way.  I don't mind moving on, but it has to be something worth moving on for.

Chess or scrabble anyone?
I'm not joking.  If anyone wants to play online PM me :)

Actually, I think VCTF is gonna take off. UT2004 players looking for something new will flock to it.

And let's not forget that lots of new players are gonna flock to the game (ut2004 players pretty much have no choice, UT99 players are loving it, even some BF2 and CSS players might try it). All this equals a bigger community (I hope).

But VCTF isn't new.  It was there in ut2004 and was probably the least played game type of them all.   We haven't seen warfare yet, but I can't see VCTF trumping it unless the demo has the 'rankin/torlan' effect on suspense/shangrila and everyone continues to play them because they're the maps they know best.

yah, what a load of bollocks... ffs... 1st they fuck the Lg, then penalise/punish/take a huge crap on those who miss it, by totally making the sniper a cunt of a thing to use.....

Having said that, I'm avereging 10 to 15 headys per full game.... but it's just NOT the same.....  half of them are 100% pure chance/luck... when I get them, they don't give me a rush or even feel any thrill at pulling them off.... i's just another bs heady.. in Ut4 I got a fucking major buzz out of each one and some even wet me pants......

Why?

Why?

Why?

I really don't know, can't quite put my finger on it......

Is it cause I'm MAJOR, I mean brutally camping to get them.....

Is it cause it feels as if I din't work or it.....

maybe cause there's no wild, dodgejump at the end of it.....

maybe it's just plain boring without the Ut4 theatrics.....

or could it b, that when ever i really tried to 'aim' for a heady in Ut4, it never happened.... I mostly got headys unexpectedly, down to practise and style, rather then technique.... in Ut3..... while camping, I'm tring to get them and I do, but when i go to try and play normally, i get none......

in Ut4 they felt unforced and natural, a part of my gaming style, in Ut3 because it's so fucking different, I have no style and more to the point, it won't be the same free flowing fast motion of play that i have honed down for the last 4 years....

wich inevatably brings me to the conclusion, that in Ut3 there is no room for my style of play, meaning I have to change it, adapt to a new game style that does not include my favourite kill type; The headshoot. (In combnation with the fast fluid motion of Ut4, that is very important to me, I love the floaty feeling of Ut4)

I think the problem I'm having here, is that, I like my Ut4 style but it is NOT working in Ut3 (At all!!) and I don't think I want to adapt to this new one, because it will not be as rewarding for me to play it.

fuck man, i don't know.... Ut3 does not give me as much satisfaction or funz0r..... ffs....

I'm still at the crossroads here......
