Antivirus etc.

Post by kAoS-jazz »

What Virus/spyware software does everyone use?

Or do you even use it?

And if so how often do you run scans?  Do you have active protection online on not
bother?

Last night I stupidly clicked on a link I shouldn't have and downloaded a whole suprise pack of viruses and trojans.  Looks like a reinstall and 10 hours of my life down the drain.   ::grrrrrr::

Comodo FireWall PRO: (Free)
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Esset NOD32 AntiVirus: (Check your PM)
http://www.nod32.com.au/

I use that combination and haven't had any major problems with them.

I just use the free edition of AVG for viruses and the free version of Ad-aware for spyware etc

Ive been using them both for a few years and have never had any trouble on any of my computers - or any of the dozen other friends/families computers ive installed it on.

AVG - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-fr ... s/us/frt/0

Ad-aware - http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Yeah that sucks.  You need to have about 25 antivirus and 10 spyware programs to actually be protected from all the crap that's out there.

I've tried Avast and AVG.  I suppose you actually need to have them running for real-time protection. I always got into the habit of closing them to save CPU. I also never bothered to scan.    ::cheers2::

And once you get something mildly insidious on your system you're fucked.  You either spend 2 weeks posting Hijack logs and following complicated removal instrucitons and hope to hell it's all gone (and it probably isn't) or you spend about the same time backing up everything on your PC and reinstalling.

Thought I had removed everything last night.  Got up today and instantly get a warning that my good friend Mr.  Trojan is still there.  Hi Trojy!

Maybe I will grow to like him, perhaps even love him?

I think I will try NOD32 and adware and then hold Gammo/Maian0 personally responsible if anything goes wrong.   ::hubbaBubba::

Use COMODO first, because it has a very powerfull PROCESS checker, so when ever the trojan shows it's head, comodo, nails it, giving you the option of blocking it from doing what ever it wants to do...

Once you have located the process it uses,  use this tool:

killbox
http://killbox.net/

to kill it for good, it will delete it off your system..

BUT be warned, Killbox is one bad arse, undoable fucker... it will kill what ever you point it to.. so be very, very carefull.....
