Greed gametype - a brief description

Post by kAoS-Bambislayer »

Here's what I posted about Greed on Outkasts. Thought I'd include it here as it's a good summary and the Youtube video link does a great job at explaining what Greed is and how it works.

Greed is good! (lol - couldn't resist that one).

For those that don't know, here's how it plays.

It's like CTF except instead of carrying a flag, you carry skulls and exchange them for points by taking them to your enemies base (the base is a portal where the enemies flag would normally be under CTF). The difference is there is no need to return home again - when you hit the portal, the skull points are applied to your team and your re-spawned to start the skull collection process again.

Each time you kill an opponent, they drop any skulls they were carrying. If they had none, they drop 1 skull which represents their life. When a skull (or skulls) are dropped, they are up for grabs by anyone on either team to run over and obtain. Single skulls are white, when you accumulate 5 they turn into a single bronze skull (I think - doing this from a poor memory), 20 skulls are a large red I think etc etc etc - you get the idea.

As you accumulate skulls, the tally count of skulls above your head (which everyone can see) grows making you a more sort after target, so if you are carrying the majority in your team, your team should start to work on protecting you as much as they can as the enemy will start focusing on getting you for your skulls, so in this regard, it's similar to CTF in that the flag carrier is the focus of attention except in greed, everyone's a flag carrier, but some become a more important flag carrier as their skull tally rises.

I just remembered, there's a brief Youtube video about greed and explains it much better than what I am doing here.

Watch it to find out about Greed :-) You can also play Greed with the titan mutator as well which is always a lot of fun but you need a decent number of people playing otherwise the titan mutator skews the game too much.
