Subwoofer Not Sick Mate.

For about a week now I have had a problem with my 5.1 sound. The subwoofer does not work in Direct3D games.

I notices my sub stopped pumpin in ut2004 the other day. So I thought wtf.

Ran test out of game using AC97speaker test, output was fine for all 6 speakers.
Ran test in Win Media player, output was fine, all 6.
Ran test in DooM3, output was fine in all 6 speakers.
Ran test in FarCry, output failed to come out of subwoofer, only 5 speakers worked.
Ran Test in UT2003, b]failed [/b]to come out of subwoofer, only 5 speakers worked.
Ran Test in UT2004, b]failed [/b]to come out of subwoofer, only 5 speakers worked.

So here is the steps I have taken to try and fix this:

Updated AND rolled back sound drivers.
Updated AND rolled back ati catalyst drivers.
Uninstalled DirectX AND then reinstalled.
Formatted and reinstalled WinXP AND all applications.
Thrown multiple hissy fits and tussies.

Gigabyte 865pe
P4 2.4ghz
x800 pro
AC97 Onboard Sound
1024 DDR Ram

5.1 speakers system


Can anyone help? This is driving me NUTS!

If not, any suggestions where the best help would be?

I have absolutly no idea :unsure: but i do suggest you get this sound card <a href='http://www.au.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=204&product=4915' target='_blank'>Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS</a> you will notice big difference in sound quality :meanië:

Dunno...sometimes my speaker settings change back to the default but thats about it. Have you got the option to have 4 point digital? cause mine sounds better when I use 4 point instead of 5.

I have to keep my ears tuned into the baby monitor still too....I could headphone it on the weekends though I guess...dunno

AC'97 has issues with many games. Make sure that in your UT2004 settings you dont have EAX enabled.

I'd also recommend an Audigy; they're fucking amazing.

By the way, you can get 5.1 surround using standard two speaker earphones if you use the right equipment. People like SRS and Dolby Labs have researched into the way the human ear hears, and have developed software which tricks your ears into thinking sounds are coming from all directions. Really ingenious shit. Look out for it in new versions of DVD software, etc.

Gammo, Dru. If my friggin 5.1 aint workin, what makes you think that the 6 channel HEADPHONES are gonna work.

Read my post and it sais that 5 of 6 channels are working in UT. 5 of 6. 1 aint working. 1 from 6 equals 5. Those Headphones (yes they are bullshit hotshit wikid) have 6 channels, which means only 5 would work with me at the moment.

the sound in ut2004 isnt True "surround" sound anyway............infact the audio positioning is somwhat crap.................

plus u really need an audigy card and have eax enabled in game...................and we all know that enableing eax in game just suks the life out of UT and hence fps........................
