1st Impressions; Ut3 Retail

Post by gämmö »

As the heading implies, what are your first impressons of the final retail version?

Me, exactly the same as the demo, in fact even worse.

It feels like a total let down from the Ut2004 package, there's no were near the same content, gametypes, mutators, models, etc... as there was with Ut2oo4...

Servers are empty, 95% of them are configured incorrectly and are unplayable. The players numbers are SHOCKING, just SHOCKING!!!

Compare this to the Ut2oo4 release and Ut3 is shaping up to become the BIGGEST dissapointment this year...

Now Epic Games are to be directly held  responsible for this 100%!!

They fucked it and as a result have done so much damage to this games chances, I'm stunned as to how they dropped the ball.

Forget the changes from Ut2oo4 to Ut3, I'm talking about what Epic have done to kill this game.

--This game was released based on marketing deals and the like. Result, 5 hours after the game was 1st released in Germany, you could get a working FULL iSO version of Ut3 in ENGLISH! Including a working keyGen!

Big, big, HUGE mistake... 95% of the peps who wet their curouisiy with the Wawez version, will never play it again let alone give Epic money for it.  Out of those, around 60% will mostly play it agan, but will not buy it, too much for too little.

By having such a long silence between the Demo and the Retail, most peps will get bored with the demo, move onto the next flashing thing (another game) and never come back with the retail.

--The heavily favoured WINDOWS over Linux/Unix development; Result: Only a handfull of servers are up, that work, most gaming servers use LINUX, sorry Microsoft, but if your Server software was not so fucking crap and cost so fucking much, maybe two more Admins would use it.

There is as of yet, STILL NO FUCKING WORD ON A LINUX SERVER RELEASE.

--They did NOT include a Web Page Server Admin, so everyone has to hardcode the server paths by hand everytime they want to change something, result; Dozens and dozens of Servers are up, but configured incorrectly and unplayable.

--TOOO EXPENsIVE.. way TOO EXPENSIVE. Ut3 is the most expensive PC-DvD game ever sold in Australia (And now has set the trend to come for sure). It comes no were near close to justifing it's price tag, based on what you get... a legal way of waiting for patches....

Orange Box (Half Life 2) Sold full retail on the day of release for 100 dollars, yes the same, but with the Orange Box, you got 5, repeat 5 FULL retail games!!!

With Ut3 you get an Art Concept book!?  wtf?  just were the fuck do I plug this so called book in?  FFS I paid for Software not sum fucking book!

--They choose a lucrative deal with GameSpy, result: Bugged out, inefficient (Profit based) stats system, that has a huge bias towards Windows servers and anything on the GameSpy network, like their own MASSIVELLY EXPENSIVE game servers, located in the US.

--The shipped game is unplayable without Patches. So we paid 100 dollars to wait for patches.

There's a few other tngs but icf, honestly, I just can not see this game been popular or even lasting 6 months....

thier own slogan, needs to be shoved up thier arse;

Zero time to Spectiacle

more like

Who gives a fuck, I'm still waiting for the patch!

or

Is that all that's in the box?

or

Fuck! Got suckered again.

Out of 10?

And that's for UnrealEd not the game, I just simply pass on the game....  if you want to talk about the game, I just say two tings:

Point 1:
In this future UNREAL universe, were armour, weapons, vehicles, etc... have reached such a level of advancement, I mean the tech behind the Shock Combos is mind boggling, that we can shape nuclear blast, hover massive vehicles, slow down time, manipulate Gravity, teleport, instatly heal and regenerate, etc....

Why is there a 17th Century Bolt Action Single shot Sniper rifle still been used?

Point 2:
If you pick your charecter as a KRALL, you will DIE less.

Gammo, you crack me up.  So passionate.   :imgonnasmackjoo::

However the sniper rifle is a true point, but miniscule IMO.  They should have made a Sniper XRay gun or something to that effect.

Yeah, havn't played it much yet.

But from what I have  Lurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrve it.

Details smetails.

So long as I get to keep kicking R@ges ass, and owning Gammo while he curses and cuses on TS about the things that piss him off...good times.

lol... pipedreamers...

This game is dead and it ain't even out of the blocks yet....

lol

With Ut2oo4 there were dozens of new servers, clans, comps, maps, etc.... the place/scene felt alive... The IRC channels were humming with hundreds of players... TeamSpeak channels everywere, Clan v Clan scrims at least 2 or 3 a week..... PUG servers, Vanilla servrs.....

So weres da Ut3 scene then?

With Ut3 there's only you lot going on about how grand it is...  and it has nothng to do with the game or what it's become, it simply has to do with the way Epic handled Ut3.

Nothing more.

It's over boys, so get over it, Ut will never be what it used to be.

Don't fell bad or even mad, no point, thems da ways things r......

Well, it looks like one of my earlier predictions might come true afterall. They'll just release another ut3 in a year that is bugfixed (like ut2004 bugfixed ut2003).

Looks like they bit off way more then they could chew (especially with the crossplatform issues).

The full version is quite adequate in terms of content.  There's some interesting maps, though perhaps a few that are a bit too 'fancy' and will never actually get into rotation.

Haven't seen many of the warfare maps in action yet because everyone keeps voting torlan  ::conehead3:: like little birdies that won't leave the nest.

Granted everyone is still learning the ropes, but I'm not entirely sold on this warfare mode yet.
It seems a bit scattered, as though there are 10 different games bing played and you never know what the hell anyone is doing.  It seems there is LESS teamwork now, I'd prefer more.
It's harder to link up (wtf) and the whole grappling thing seems to be dead already.  Everytime you grapple you get slammed into a mountain, fall and plummet to your death or the noob flying takes you 10,000 feet up and gets into a dogfight.

There are lots of good things about it.  Generally though I'm a little frustrated with the game at this point.  Having fun because it's new, but not the same kind of satisfaction I get from the actual gameplay of 2k4.  I haven't improved in the slightest, and can't really see myself improving at all.  Not that that is the point of playing a game, but it's something I like to have in a game.

Some people seem more suited to it than others and it seems like the skill level was set from day 1.   There's all this talk about closing the gap between pro's and noobs, but it seems to have widened.  I'm already 50 frags down in some matches.  There's no way I'm going to
make up that ground.

But that's my own personal gripe.  Overall I'd give the game a 7/10 at this point.

Points deducted (see gammo's post).
